Castelli launches new kit design for the 2016 Maratona dles Dolomites
Taking place every July in Italy, the Maratona dles Dolomites is one of the world's most iconic gran fondos and with Castelli being a main partner to the event, the Italian cyclewear brand has just unveiled the official 2016 Maratona race kit.
The striking new jersey and bibshort designs give the event's more than 9,000 riders the chance to take on some of the Dolomites' biggest passes in equal parts comfort and style. For the first time, there's also a female-specific version of the kit.
Developed with Giro d'Italia and Tour de France pro riders, Castelli's super lightweight Maratona jersey is highly breathable, making it ideal for the long hot climbs every competitor will need to tackle in order to get to the finish line. It's also race cut for superior aerodynamics to help you get the most out of any momentum you manage to build up on the rolling roads between the monstrous ascents.
The 3D mesh fabric on the front of the jersey means skin contact is minimised to aid wicking and avoid saturation while also allowing loads of airflow to keep you cool and dry when the sweat really starts to flow. The fabric is so light and quick-drying that even dousing yourself with a refreshing bottle of water as the day heats up won't weigh you down for long.
Castelli's usual three pockets adorn the back, giving plenty of storage for a long day in the saddle while the left pocket features an 'eco pocket' print to encourage safe stowing of empty gel packets.
The Maratona Volo Bibshort ensures all-day comfort with its gentle compression, seamless variable density KISS Air seatpad and 200+ Gram Affinity Lycra on the inside legs, which gives exceptional freedom of movement. The mesh straps aid moisture transfer, while the wide Giro Air mesh gripper stops the legs from riding up. There are aero gains too, thanks to the Affinity BLC textured fabric on the front and sides of the legs.
Both the men's and women's versions of the Maratona kit feature a gorgeous impressionistic print symbolising the huge climbs of the course as well as its vibrant, multi-national field of riders.
